Arnis Tours to the Philippines
For kung-fu, travel to the Shaolin temple in China. For Muay-Thai boxing, train in the camps of Thailand. For authentic arnis, eskrima or kali training, visit the arnisadors of the Philippines.
Starting February 2007, Jay de Leon will be leading a guided, 17-day arnis tour to the Philippines. Jay de Leon is a well known arnis master, the host of Tipunan arnis seminars and tournaments and currently the Commissioner of North America for the International Modern Arnis Federation of the Philippines (IMAFP) in Manila, Philippines.
This guided tour will include intensive, authentic training in various styles of Filipino martial arts such as arnis, buno (grappling), hilot (indigenous healing arts) with familiar styles like Doce Pares, Lightning Scientific Arnis, Modern Arnis, Pekiti-Tirsia , and others. Depending on their availability, tour members will get to either train or meet legendary grandmasters such as Cacoy and Diony Canete, Leo Gaje, Roland Dantes, Vic Sanchez and others.
You will also witness and experience authentic and never-before-seen fights in tapado, dumog, Yaw-Yan and others. You will see full-speed, live-weapon demonstration in full-contact stickfighting and live blade demonstrations. At the end of the tour, participants will receive an official Certificate of Arnis Proficiency signed by Jay de Leon and official representatives of Arnis Philippines (the governing body for arnis and Olympic sports in the Philippines), IMAFP and the Sports Commission of the Philippines.
In addition, you will see some of the most breathtaking locales in the world—pristine beaches, cascading waterfalls, tropical flora and fauna and world-class resorts. You will experience world-renowned Filipino cuisine—lechon, adobo and pancit washed down with cold San Miguel beer. You will get to experience, explore and savor Philippine culture and tradition, local celebrations such as fiestas, and historic sites. But most of all, you will get to experience the unparalleled hospitality and friendship that the Philippines is known for, with smiling faces and friendly greetings wherever you go.
